“Twenty Miles to NH (Part 2)” by The National // Originally by The Philistines Jr
It’s always a spectacular day when you get to hear new music from one of the best bands in the world, and The National is definitely on that elite list. This track comes from the forthcoming tribute to The Philistines Jr. In tradition with The National’s other goodness, this track is downright wonderful. Not to be missed.

LISTEN /// STEREOGUM’S STROKES TRIBUTE
Tomorrow marks the tenth anniversary of the release of The Strokes’ debut album “Is This It”. The band and album heralded a reinvigoration of indie music, which had been stuck with Feeder, Badly Drawn Boy and The Stereophonics as its frontrunners up until that point. I must admit, whilst the album is a modern classic with a lot of truly great songs, it’s never grasped me as all that revolutionary, in the same way that The Libertines sort of pass me by. Perhaps I was a little too young…
Anyway to celebrate the decade since its release, Stereogum have compiled a covers album in tribute to the NYC five-piece’s debut, free for download. The tracklisting is:
- Peter, Bjorn & John - Is This It
- Chelsea Wolfe - The Modern Age
- Frankie Rose - Soma
- Real Estate - Barely Legal
- Wise Blood - Someday
- Austra - Alone Together
- The Morning Benders - Last Nite
- Owen Pallett - Hard To Explain
- Heems - New York City Cops
- Derdoorian - Trying Your Luck
- Computer Magic - Take It Or Leave It
Particular highlights include Peter, Bjorn & John’s spiky take on the title track, Owen Pallett’s whimsical version of Hard To Explain and The Morning Benders turning Last Nite into the brightest of pop tunes.
